Abaqus on HPC

Abaqus on HPC
Manufacturer
Dassault Systemes
Delivery Type
Custom Delivery
HPC systems: Sol, Hawk

This software is available on our HPC systems, including the Sol and Hawk clusters. It can be accessed using our modules system: Lmod .

Users can search for software with the module spider command. This command provides instructions for finding the software in our hierarchical Lmod system .

The latest version of Abaqus can be loaded with this command:

module load abaqus/2024

Access to HPC is granted to faculty research advisors who manage access for their groups or classes. Interested students, faculty, and staff should visit our allocations page at https://go.lehigh.edu/hpcaccess to learn how to request an account. Our research computing knowledge base at https://researchcomputing.lehigh.edu/ provides information about access and training opportunities so that your students and researchers can learn to use the HPC system to support their research.

  • SIMULIA Abaqus is a suite of finite element analysis (FEA) products for both routine and sophisticated engineering applications, including nonlinear structural & thermal analysis, and support for advanced user subroutine capabilities. The Abaqus suite includes 3 primary products.

o Abaqus/CAE                    (simulation pre/post processor)

o Abaqus/Standard             (implicit FEA solver)

o Abaqus/Explicit                (explicit FEA solver)

  • The Abaqus FEA product suite has capabilities that can be used to solve multiphysics problems. The advantage of Abaqus Multiphysics capabilities is the ease with which Multiphysics problems can be solved by the Abaqus structural FEA user. From the same model, same element library, same material data, and same load history, an Abaqus structural FEA model can easily be extended to include additional physics interaction (electrical, thermal, acoustic, pore pressure, piezoelectric, hydrostatic, Eulerian-Lagrange, …).

SIMULIA Abaqus

  • Abaqus 2021 supports the following operating systems.
    • Windows 10, Windows Server 2016 & 2019
    • LINUX:  Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 7, 8.  SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 12, 15
  • Parallel processing is supported on both Windows & LINUX.
    • Abaqus/Standard and Abaqus/Explicit solvers support Shared memory, Distributed memory, and Hybrid (both parallel and distributed memory) parallel processing.
  • Approximately 5 GB is needed for product installation, with another 5GB needed for HTML and PDF documentation.
    • The documentation is also available on-line, so the documentation does not need to be installed locally.

Choose Version = 2021, then “SIMULIA Established Products (Abaqus, fe-safe, Isight, and Tosca)”
  • At least 2GB of free memory is recommended to run SIMULIA Abaqus/CAE, or the Abaqus solvers.
    • Memory and disk space requirements will vary with model size.
  • User subroutines are optional, advanced, capabilities and require access to compatible C++ and FORTRAN compilers that are not included with the Abaqus software.
